A Permanent Catch Magnet (PCM) captures released metal particles. Iron filings are a source of malfunctions and delays on the railway. These filings adhere due to transient voltages and return currents that magnetize the rails. The permanent catch magnet is mounted on the side of the rails facing the train wheel flanges, directly before and after the weld plate of the ES weld. The magnet is designed so that only the front face, facing away from the rail, is magnetic, with a capture depth of 3 centimeters. As a result, the captured filings can no longer cause short circuits at the electrical separation between the rails.
